It's that time of the year again when warm weather means fun times and plenty of outdoor concerts, regional festivals and of course, the NOLA Jazz Fest. The Jazz Fest had another impressive line-up and this year the lovely Esperanza Spalding wowed the audience with her soothing jazz renderings and her iconic beauty. Performances by a stellar list of some of the worlds best included the legendary Bruce Springsteen to Ziggy Marley who simply made their fans forget all about NOLA's tropical heat.
I made it home just in time to catch the last part of the Oscars. Viola didn't win, but she's still a winner in my book, and Octavia Spencer brought home the best-supporting Oscar. Esperanza Spalding did a perfect rendition of Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World." Looking angelic in a one-shouldered white gown with her massive Afro serving as a halo, she dedicated a very memorable song to all of those who have worked in front of and behind the scenes in the entertainment industry who have passed on. I think tonight she even won over more fans to her ever growing fan base who appreciate real music.
I know it's been a while since my last post, but I've been hanging out on my highly addictive Tumblr page. I'm not giving up this blog and all I've got to do is just transfer most of my posts to this blog.
Anyway, Esperanza Spalding is gracing the latest issue of T-Magazine in one gorgeous cover and photo editorial.
Check out the rest of Esperanza Spalding's fashion spread from the May issue of Instyle Magazine on Deana's blog, Black Beautee's to see more photos of the beautiful Grammy Award winning songstress.

...She beat out Justin Bieber and Drake for the Grammy Award for Best New Artist! Ha! Ha! Ha! Raise your hands if you're a fan. I am and I've got every record she has ever recorded to prove it! Some of us have been fans for a very long time, but last night she has again shown the world exactly who she is without their fanfare and excessive objectification. Even the Obama's are fans. Esperanza Spalding wasn't on the lips of many them before, but she certainly will now. For some reason or the other there are a lot of people who are so "2000 and Late" due to being smitten with those who the media deems as popular. "Popularity doesn't mean a thing if you don't have any real influence."
If you haven't listened to her before, be sure to check out her latest disc, Chamber Music Society.
HRH, Prince has announced a multi-city tour to begin in December, titled "Welcome 2 America," the tour will feature guest appearances by some of my favorites, Cassandra Wilson, Lalah Hathaway, Janelle Monae, Esperanza Spalding, and Mint Condition.
New Music! New Music! There's nothing like new music especially when it comes from some of our favorites. My music life will be complete if Lauryn Hills drops a new album within the coming months, but I will definately be checking out new music by these three women.
First up is the beautiful and talented bassist Esperanza Spalding serving it to us Jazz lovers in a way that only she can. With a voice that serenades the listener in a multi-lingual lyrical display of Portuguese and English, Esperanza has what it takes to transcend generations and cross cultural barriers with her music alone. Chamber Music Society will be available for sale on August 17, 2010. To hear samples, click on the link.
Listen to their reasons for creating the new music for "Nü Revolution."
The singing group, Les Nubians which consist of sisters Hélène and Célia Faussart will bless us with new music titled "Nü Revolution" which will be released in September 2010. If you remember their international hit, "Makeda" then you know the duo never disappoints with their jazzy, and sophisticated style of R&B that is combined with both French and Cameroonian lyrics. Personally, when it comes to A cappella, no one does A cappella better than Les Nubians and En Vogue. Check out their website for new updates.
