Media Mogul Oprah Winfrey Goes Au Naturel For The September Issue of O The Oprah Magazine

Oprah sports her massive Afro on the cover of O The Oprah Magazine's September issue

“They say a little change never hurt anybody. In fact, I believe that’s an understatement: I’ve found that a little change make a world of difference, and I’m always amazed by how easy it is to brighten things up with a little tweak. (Like, say, wearing your hair au naturel, as I did on this month’s cover.) ~Oprah Winfrey .

Once I saw the cover I smiled from ear to ear. As a woman who has been au naturel for four decades it's refreshing to see more and more women embrace their natural hair texture and wear it with confidence. Sure, some of you will say it's so superficial, but I deal in the superficial and I also "deal-n-truth" on my own terms.

A lot of women look up to celebrities for inspiration and for some kind of validation in the choices that they make when it comes to their appearance, sorry, but that's not my thing. If I like your style, I like your style and I will always have my own personal style and not copy anyone else's.

I've read several blogs dedicated to natural hair who confirm this statement when some write that they'd like to see more prominent women wear their hair in it's natural state in hopes that it would be more acceptable for them to wear a natural hairstyle with confidence and be readily accepted from their peers and co-workers. The problem doesn't lie with your peers or co-workers, the problem is basically an individual problem that goes much deeper than that.

The real problem is that the psychological damage that so many women suffer from will not change a thing until they learn to embrace what they were born with before they look to a society who they think will accept them. The problem actually lies within before another human being will accept you and no one will accept you until you accept yourselves. Stop looking for external forces to accept you and begin to accept yourselves just the way you are. I don't base my life on what other people think of me and women just don't understand how freeing it is to be free from the opinions of others.

Oprah looks beautiful either way she chooses to wear her hair. Rock On Oprah!

Joan Smalls for VOGUE/USA August 2012

What a pleasant surprise to see a VOGUE issue dedicated to family and when I saw Joan Smalls gorgeous family now we understand where her beauty comes from. Joan is in a gorgeous photo spread featuring her dad and sisters in this month's VOGUE photographed by Norman Jean Roy. They aren't on their site just yet, but I'm sure they will be.

I'm so proud of Joan.

I'd rather have the paper magazine in my hands because digital issues just don't do it for me. My neck and eyes have been destroyed trying to read a magazines like that.

Gorgeous photos, aren't they?

One To Watch: Singer Grace Lamarr aka Grace McKeown

Newcomer Grace Lamarr
The British are coming again and I mean literally when it pertains to music, even though it is nothing new because singers from the U.K. have always rocked these shores with their great music and style. Being that America's taste in music is just as diverse as it's people, the U.K. is exporting an influx of new artists to peak our interest.

Here's Grace for the most recent issue of Net-A-Porter Magazine.

Grace Lamarr isn't signed to a label just yet, but she's already attracted the attention of the influential fashion set who often introduce us to what's new and what's now and she'll soon be "It." Even though Adele has been one of the most recent successful artists to come out of the U.K., she isn't the first and nor will she be the last and I hate when many of these up-and-coming artist are labeled with the next "Adele" caption.  Just let them be who they are and live up to their own sound and standards and not those of Adele or even those of the late Amy Winehouse.

Her sound is uniquely her own and it reminds me of Ella Fitzgerald in it's clarity and carriage. Whoever signs her please don't destroy her by attempting to box her in as the next anybody and using sex to sell her music because when a woman has a voice just as beautiful as hers then that should be enough. No wonder why American record sales are down in the dumps...everyone is a clone of someone else. Please don't touch her magnificent coils!

"When you don't look like everyone else, you don't sound like them either."

Man of Style: Menswear Designer Devon Scott

Every menswear fashion week the men bring it and what I mean is that no two men are dressed alike wearing the latest 'It' anything, but are setting trends and inspiring other men (and women) about what to wear. I've lived in Europe so I know that European men are some of the best dressed men on the planet and are among the risk takers when it comes to men's style.

During Milan's Men's Fashion Week menswear designer Devon Scott caught my eye and I'm sure the eye's of several women because every one I follow wanted to know who he was. Devon Scott hails from North Carolina and now lives and works in NYC. His label was established in 2008 and is made in America using Italian tailoring techniques. His collection offers custom made suits, jackets and shirts for the discerning gentleman of impeccable taste and style.

I've heard of Devon before, but since I blog mostly about women and men fashion designers, I basically forgot about blogging about him. I first read about him on the New York Times website, but at Pitti Immagine Uomo he caught my attention again with his style and I'm sure much of what he wore was from his collection: Devon Scott NY.

I love seeing a man who's not afraid to be an individualist and who's not afraid to stand out. What I admire most about him and the other men of African descent who turned the streets of Milan into a style stalk, it was the confidence they showed and the self-respect their imagery presented to the world.

Look At That Smile!

We didn't see sagging jeans or any other lack of decency we see on a regular basis, what we saw were grown men who cared about how they presented themselves to the world. My father always said that if a man didn't care how he looked then he doesn't care about anything else and my father always presented his best to the world.

who is this man? where would i find him?
