HAUTE GELE

"This Beauty Should Be On Your Walls"

"The December Issue of VOGUE Gioiello Goes "Haute" Gele in this Editorial"

I LOVE IT!

Facts: The "Gele" is a Yoruba {Nigeria, West Africa} word for a female head-wrap. A "head-wrap" is a long piece of cloth that you tie and tuck on your head to create this magnificent creation of beauty!

Note: It's nice to share. If you're going to use my photos at least have the decency to link back...Thanks a zillion!

Ajak Deng For The Banana Republic

Leave it up to your kids to check the mail-box... here I am thinking that all I received in the mail today was a book that I ordered. After making a few errands, I looked up and saw a magazine crammed into my mailbox. And what a pleasant surprise to see on the back of my daughter's Self magazine is an advertisement featuring "Super Model" Ajak Deng for the Banana Republic. Talk about gorgeous! The woman simply rocks!

Need To Listen: Georgia Anne Muldrow "VWETO"

Totally loving Georgia Anne Muldrow's album cover.

Being that as music lovers who are constantly bombarded with every singer who's based on a scale of popularity and who really can't sing, it's refreshing when to hear real music. Many of today's more popular singers just have the image and no voice, which leaves the über talented singers being ignored by the music industry and out of building a possible fan base. All I can say is that the music industry sucks and I'm going to make it's my life's duty to seek out the underrated and hopefully get their music in the hands of like minded individuals. And Georgia Anne Muldrow is one bad... singer who many of you are missing out on because of the way things are.

I love her music- plus I love her vibe. Her latest offering "VWETO" (which means 'gravity' in Swahili) will be available 12/14 on iTunes and released on Amazon.com on January 11, 2011 is a mind blowing instrumentalist sojourn of beats that will put you wherever you want to be, in your own Utopia. Show your love and support this artist and many more like her by buying their music.

I find it always best to block out people who want to box you in and put a label on you. Labels only serve to limit us because we were born to soar. ~ Divalocity

SHOWstudio - Tribute to Alexander McQueen by Nick Knight, music by Björk

One of McQueen's Last Masterpieces

Alexander McQueen

As one of the worlds most innovative and talented designers, McQueen had established himself as a household name forever changing the way women dress. Every season McQueen's collections were just as inventive as they were revolutionary, sadly his vision shines no more, but his name will live on forever.

In a powerful homage to this brilliant designer, Film-maker Nick Knight presents a breathtakingly beautiful video honoring his legacy. Alexander McQueen was posthumously awarded at this year’s British Fashion Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design. This special award celebrates his achievement as a designer whose work has impacted the world. Check out this beautiful video brilliantly styled by internationally known stylist and fashion director, Edward Enninful.

To Lee, With Love – Nick Knight’s tribute to Alexander McQueen featuring: Ajak Deng, Anais Mali, Flaviana Matata, Jeneil Williams, Joan Smalls, Kinee Diouf, Quack, Rose Cordero, Sedene Blake, Trissan all  dressed in Alexander  McQueen's most beautiful creations. Enjoy and be inspired!

The Military Trend Done Right

The Military Trend Done Right

The Military Trend Done Right by Vonmiwi Culvera featuring a lace skirt

When I saw this stunning photo of model and philanthropist, Lydia Carlston wearing a long black tulle skirt, a military inspired jacket, I couldn't help but notice how she stood out from all other well dressed women at a recent event.

I've kept many of my BDU's when I got of the military, not only to do my yard work, but to also wear those cargo pants and jackets just to make a fashion statement because this is a look that never goes out of style. Now if I could just transform my Dress Green uniform into a glamorous ensemble.

The Way We Wore...

...and still can wear the clothes from the past in which some call vintage-I call them the classics. Case in point icon and "Super Model " Pat Cleveland at the world premiere of Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston which was held during the TriBeCa Film Festival this past, April 2010 wearing Halston.

You'd have to be under a rock if you claim to know fashion and not know that Pat Cleveland was one of Halston's muses and friends along with other greats, Billie Blair, Dalma, Naomi Sims and other Super Models of the '70s and '80s.

Yaya DaCosta For The Gap

Yaya DaCosta in an advertisement for The Gap

While surfing the web I came across this advertisement of Yaya and quickly clicked on the ad to see what The Gap had in store. OK, it was the usual, but what disturbed me even more was that there was not one model of color featured in that online catalog. Sorry, but I don't shop where I'm rendered invisible and neither should any of you. Advertising and money dictate fashion, but we spend a helluva amount of money on clothing too. Isn't it time we see the truth and speak it with our dollars? Exactly who are The Gaps customers? Retailers need to rethink how they do business in this country in order to stay afloat.
