Last night's Costume Institute Gala Met Ball 2011 was supposed to be inspired by the work of Alexander McQueen, to me it was anything but. I wanted to see drama and the decadence that McQueen was known for as a designer and I hardly saw any of it.
Those who wore McQueen stayed true to form and I'm sure there were other women who were wearing McQueen that we didn't see due to the medias obsession with popular celebrities who we often see plastered all over the place.
Personally, I get tired of seeing the same people over and over again. Sure, some of those same celebrities who are guilty of this offense are featured in this photo, but they gave the event a little "wow" factor if nothing else.The Costume Institute Gala was often a must see event, now it's been hijacked by popular culture much like everything else has.
April has been a very good month for men of style, especially those who are of African descent and happen to work in the fashion industry. First we have the great news that Olivier Rousteing has been named the new creative director of Maison de Balmain and now the brilliant Edward Enninful is the new fashion and style director at W Magazine.
Edward Enninful, is a London-based Vogue contributing fashion editor and stylist, who replaces former fashion and style director, Alex White who is leaving W Magazine after16 years. Born in Ghana, he attended Goldsmith's College, University of London, which he then left to become the fashion editor of i-D magazine and the rest is history.
Known the world over as a prolific and brilliant stylist, Edward has contributed to numerous international fashion publications, advertisement campaigns and is also a contributing fashion editor to several Conde Nast Publications, such as Vogue, Vogue Italia, Vogue Japan and has also served as the fashion editor at large for i-D magazine. Congratulations to both men on their enormous accomplishment's!
As one of the worlds most innovative and talented designers, McQueen had established himself as a household name forever changing the way women dress. Every season McQueen's collections were just as inventive as they were revolutionary, sadly his vision shines no more, but his name will live on forever.

Alexander McQueen was posthumously awarded at this year’s British Fashion Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design. This special award celebrates his achievement as a designer whose work has impacted the world.
