Grande Dame:Jeneil Williams for Elle Magazine September 2012 by Horst Diekgerdes

I stated in an earlier post about Elle Magazine's fabulous September issue which featured Solange at her lovely Brooklyn brownstone and Jeneil Williams in a spectacular fashion editorial. Here are more photos from her editorial featuring looks from Prada to Oscar de la Renta, and is photographed by Horst Diekgerdes.

I tried to wait to see if someone would post the editorial but models.com only posted three, so I took photos of the editorial from my own magazine. They're not the best, but you can see what you need to. I don't do digital issues (I tried) and nor do I tear up my magazines to scan them.

Stylist Lester Garcia's impeccable attention to detail created ensembles with just the right amount of accessories that didn't overpower anything that Jeneil wore. Jeneil's beautiful, richly hued skin created the perfect canvas for makeup artist Maki Riyoke to create jewel toned wisps of color on her flawless skin.
I love this one her in this trapeze dress from Oscar de la Renta F/W 2012.

The three photos above are from Models.com/Horst Diekgerdes.

OH, OSCAR!

Anais Mali for Oscar de la Renta F/W 2012 RTW.

Oscar de la Renta is one of this nations national treasures and one of the world's best fashion designers. I've had my ups and downs with Oscar after he reportedly tried to bash our First Lady but I can't deny that he is one of the greatest fashion designers still living.

For his F/W 2012 RTW, Oscar de la Renta presented another beautiful collection and what caught my own were the pretty headbands the models wore that could easily be created using faux or real diamonds or colorful jewel encrusted brooches and satin ribbon or pliable velvet ribbon. The wider the ribbon the better.

I used ribbon that was 1 1/2 inches wide, but two or more inches of satin ribbon will do just fine. I used brooches from my own collection. Be sure to measure the ribbon to fit your head and hair length. It doesn't cost a fortune to be creative and this same technique can also be used to create a stunning belt using a thicker satin or velvet ribbon.

An Afro this huge or a smaller cropped Afro would be perfect to wear this headband with during an evening affair.

A MOMENT IN AFRO HERSTORY:THE DEFINING MOMENTS AT VERSAILLES

The Americans came, they saw, they sewed and they conquered Versailles and on that day of 28 November 1973, black models showed that they were a force to be reckoned with. We've celebrated that triumphant day by recognizing these pioneers who walked off that runway into history. Now view the runway shots from that historic day.

Charlene Dash, Amina Warsuma, Jennifer Brice, Alva Chinn, Pat Cleveland, Billie Blair, Norma Jean Darden, China Machado and Bethann Hardison...
