Solange for H&M Mexico

Sometimes it pays to speak another language other than English and since I speak fashion in several languages, I often find what I want. Not only did our favorite Afrolista, Solange Knowles dodge Hurricane Sandy, she was "en Mexico" for the inauguration of the new H&M store opening.

Things were getting so bad since there was no Solange sighting that old photos of her were being reblogged on Tumblr, so expect these three to pop up today on the sites that are supposed to be her so called fan sites.

Photographer Kai Z. Feng captured Joan wearing the latest designs from PRADA to Proenza Schouler in this gorgeous editorial. I'm definitely loving the lip color. For more of this fabulous editorial we'll have to get our hands on a copy of VOGUE Australia when it hits the newsstands.

On this day on March 26, 1944, Diana Ernestine Earle Ross who is also known to the world as Diana Ross was born in Detroit, Michigan.

Two of my favorite looks from CHANEL'S THE LITTLE BLACK JACKET exhibition. I'm loving Akuol De Mabior's look with her beautiful head wrap and Ayo's photo. Their photos are some of the ones being featured in Karl Lagerfeld's new book "The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's Classic Revisited" which comes out this fall and will feature over 100 people wearing the iconic jacket.

Saturdays were made for family, shopping and catching up on all of the international fashion magazines that I could find. While my daughters were out in the malls, I was hitting up all of the bookstores to see what they had to offer. I read them all yesterday. From VOGUE Australia to JALOUSE and when I spotted up and coming singer Elle Varner in the April issue of NYLON Magazine in this gorgeous photo photographed by Francisco Garcia I had to share. I made notes about all of the key photos that I saw so that I could reference them later for a blog post.

The magazine that I walked out of the bookstore with was ARISE Magazines Issue 14 and to me it's worth every dollar.

Loc'ed And Lovely: Actress Shanola Hampton

She may not be on the lips of everyone, but give it time she will be. Isn't that how it always is? They wait to write about these unknown and beautiful celebrities until they become more popular or until the mainstream media features them and that's only when they start to promote them. That's why I make it my life's  work to celebrate the women that no one else talks about.

Legendary Fashion Designer B Micheal Designed Whitney Houston's Wardrobe for SPARKLE

We will miss seeing and hearing our beautiful Whitney Houston again but her imagery and music will live on forever. Designer B. Micheal is a designer known for his elegant creations and he was blessed to design Whitney's wardrobe for her upcoming movie Sparkle.

Producer and Whitney's best friend and business partner, Debra Martin Chase is responsible for introducing the two and bringing B. Micheal on board to design Whitney's 1960's inspired wardrobe. What a way to start the day and see Solange in all her ferosh-ness on my Tumblr page for Time Out New York in the perfect colors and fashion inspiration for Spring. Solange had been on a roll way before she was signed to NEXT Modeling agency because she is a favorite of women in the Natural Hair community before the mainstream fashion industry noticed her, either way, she simply rocks. I wonder what are ESSENCE, EBONY and the other so called niche magazines waiting on when it comes to a cover and editorial featuring her??? After looking at most of the April issues of American fashion magazines there wasn't anything worth writing about, but after spotting singer Andy Allo on the back page of VOGUE Index she was the only worth mentioning. I love her music. I love her style. I love her beauty and love her Afro!

I'm still hoping for a model who is working to grace the cover of some of the American fashion magazines. It's been over ten years in the making and I guess the current trend will continue. Anyway, Beyonce looks fabulous as always on any cover she's on.
