Joan Smalls for Harper's Bazaar UK

When Joan Smalls' image flashed before my Tumblr dashboard I was all giddy with excitement thinking that I couldn't wait until my copy arrived in the mail since Harper's Bazaar is the only fashion magazine that I subscribe to. A woman has to wear her glasses more often after staring at a computer at work and at home all day because my eyes deceived me.

*the sound of screeching tires* Wrong country...this issue is for Harper's Bazaar UK and not the American version of Harper's Bazaar. Either way it's a stunning cover and I'm sure there's an equally stunning photo editorial of the Number One model in the world inside.

I wonder which one my local bookstore will stock, the one with Laetitia Casta or Joan Smalls???

Joan Smalls for VOGUE/USA August 2012

What a pleasant surprise to see a VOGUE issue dedicated to family and when I saw Joan Smalls gorgeous family now we understand where her beauty comes from. Joan is in a gorgeous photo spread featuring her dad and sisters in this month's VOGUE photographed by Norman Jean Roy. They aren't on their site just yet, but I'm sure they will be.

I'm so proud of Joan.

I'd rather have the paper magazine in my hands because digital issues just don't do it for me. My neck and eyes have been destroyed trying to read a magazines like that.

Gorgeous photos, aren't they?

What's Haute Now!!

The Latest and the Greatest according to moi!

Some of the American fashion Gods must be listening to their readers because Joan Smalls has landed on the cover of the July issue of W Magazine.
Pinned Image
Joan's beauty was captured by the legendary Steven Meisel for her gorgeous cover and editorial. This is not her first cover because Joan has had several international covers and since most international fashion magazines are also obsessed with celebrities, they do have the courage to use models on their magazine covers unlike their American counterparts. Congrats to Joan on a beautiful cover and thank you, Stefano Tonchi for having the courage to feature a model on the cover.

Saturdays were made for relaxing and catching up on reading and just having a me day because I adamantly refused to go on a road trip this weekend. Sorry kiddies, but Mommy has to save money for our annual vacation. Lol!!

I bought the latest issue of Hunger magazine and while flipping through the pages I came across this beautiful editorial featuring singer Liane La Havas which stopped me at mid flip. Rankin captured her style and beauty in some of the most beautiful clothes in the prettiest colors ever!  Hunger Magazine is another one of those bi-annual magazines that have now cropped up on the markets and it's heavy because it's filled with beautiful editorials from some of the worlds best unknown up and coming artist from all genres. Liane La Havas is going to have meteoric success here in the states with her music. Mark my words.

Costume Institute Gala:The Met Ball

Tomorrow is the Costume Institute's famous Met Ball and I'm sure we all want to see what some of our favorite moguls, celebrities and models will be wearing to this prestigious event. The Work of legendary designer Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada will be celebrated this time at the Met, so expect to see plenty of vintage Schiaparelli gowns or Prada and Miu Miu cocktail dresses.

The Cut Blog has added a list (see at end of post)  of the designers and their dates and if it is like anything like last year some people just might get cut out of photos and ignored. I'd love to see what Beyoncé and Solange Knowles will be wearing this year since they both attended last year.

I vividly remember when top model Jourdan Dunn was famed photographer Mario Testino's date last year and they absolutely cropped her out of photos and didn't highlight her at all.

See her in the background?

Here's another shot of her in the background in her gorgeous Burberry gown. Hopefully it won't happen again, but we all know that it will since everything is based on rank and file or popularity in the media.

Desiree Rogers was also there with her ex-husband John W. Rogers and since she had resigned from the White House there was not one mention of her even attending the event. Anyway, I'm sure Jourdan will be photographed this year possibly dangling on the arm of Jason Wu or some other designer and if it is Jason Wu she can wear one of the gowns that I've highlighted below from his SS 2012 RTW collection.

My fantasy wish is that she's Jason Wu's date and is wearing something stunning from his SS 2012 RTW Collection. See the beautiful gowns below:

The beautiful Joan Smalls has graced another VOGUE magazine cover and this one tops her VOGUE Italia cover by leaps and bounds! Congrats to you!

Photographer Kai Z. Feng captured Joan wearing the latest designs from PRADA to Proenza Schouler in this gorgeous editorial. I'm definitely loving the lip color. For more of this fabulous editorial we'll have to get our hands on a copy of VOGUE Australia when it hits the newsstands.

The Best of the 2011 MET BALL

Last night's Costume Institute Gala Met Ball 2011 was supposed to be inspired by the work of Alexander McQueen, to me it was anything but. I wanted to see drama and the decadence that McQueen was known for as a designer and I hardly saw any of it.

Those who wore McQueen stayed true to form and I'm sure there were other women who were wearing McQueen that we didn't see due to the medias obsession with popular celebrities who we often see plastered all over the place.

Personally, I get tired of seeing the same people over and over again. Sure, some of those same celebrities who are guilty of this offense are featured in this photo, but they gave the event a little "wow" factor if nothing else. The Costume Institute Gala was often a must see event, now it's been hijacked by popular culture much like everything else has.

BEAUTY NEWS: JOAN SMALLS FOR ESTEE LAUDER

First it was the beautiful Liya Kebede that was chosen in the fifty-seven year history of the Estee Lauder Companies ad campaigns as one of the first women of color to represent the brand, and now we have to beautiful Joan Smalls as one of the new faces. Asian beauty, Liu Wen has also been chosen as Estee Lauder follows the monumental growth of the affluent Asian market.

Pay attention marketers to the companies that feature true diversity in their ad campaigns by featuring women of color and follow suit by displaying these ad campaigns in various media outlets. Joan Smalls is now a "Top Model" whose advertisements will be global based on her appeal to all women.

While Visions of LANVIN SS 2011 Prêt-à-Porter Still Dance In My Head...

...My baby is leaving to attend a college in San Francisco and she received a welcome book all about her school. She's a creative type just like her Mom and the rest of her sisters and she wants to become a visual stylist and work in retail in NYC. Dad's not too happy because he wants her to be in NYC, but I taught our children to soar and soar she can to experience the world. While reviewing her book I came across this beautiful photo below of Ataui Deng, Jourdan Dunn, Janeil Williams and Ajak Deng shot by an alumnus of the school that my daughter will be attending by the name of Tomas Delucia. It's just as beautiful as as the ones in color from the LANVIN 2011 SS RTW.

It's titled, 'Lanvin Backstage Beauties' and I searched throughout the web for it and no such luck and that's how I created my latest screen saver using different photos from the show of one of the best encores ever.

THE LOOKS: GUCCI 2011/2012 RTW

Two words best describe GUCCI'S 2011 FALL/WINTER-RTW Collection. Luxurious and chic! For Fall, designer Frida Giannini put basic black on the back burner in favor of vibrant colors such as teal, scarlet, lilac, aubergine and every jewel tome imaginable, all done up in a wide range of eras from '70s Disco, to '40s "Zoot Suit" style menswear. Glam gowns with just the right amount of sex appeal, dare to go there with peekaboo slits which evoke a '40s allure like no other. And the furs...PETA would have a field day...perfectly dyed to match. The GUCCI brand has certainly lived up to it's image as a luxe brand to covet. I love the bold lip and minimal makeup Pat McGrath  created. Simply gorgeous!Check out the rest of the collection  and behind the scenes here.
