SHALA STYLE: EIGHT LOOKS
"She didn't make several international best dressed list for nothing. Love her or hate her, the woman is living out her dreams and I don't see anything wrong with that. Real style Rules!"
For me, it's all about real style or nothing else. If you see a celebrity highlighted here it's because he or she isn't receiving the same kind of shine or recognition as their peers. Now that I know that many celebrities wear borrowed clothing and jewels to many events, I can't get all excited about "faux glamour." *Diva Shrug* :)

A WOMAN YOU SHOULD KNOW: Brandice Henderson of Harlem's Fashion Row
“The topic of diversity in fashion continues to become more and more relevant."
"Le Look Du Jour in Vintage Chic at Stephen Burrows"
"There's Nothing More Beautiful Than A Woman With A Vision To Change Lives"
I always knew I wanted to be in fashion. I got my degree in Fashion Merchandising from University of Tennessee and became a buyer for Charming Shops in Memphis. From there I moved to New York City to work for one of our vendors and pursued a second bachelors from F.I.T. I always loved fashion events and fashion shows, so I started out just wanting to do a fashion show in Harlem. ~ Brandice Henderson, Founder Harlem's Fashion Row
FACTS: The HFR showcase was created to bring awareness and visibility to an existing community of talented minority designers, who otherwise may not have the opportunity to showcase their collections during Fashion Week. They introduce the designers to an audience of top editors, buyers and industry influencer's. Also, as a part of it’s greater mission to develop lasting partnerships and mentor-ships with editors, buyers and showrooms, this year’s HFR event is designed to prioritize bottom line sales and will include an on-site center for post show market appointments for interested buyers and attendees.

Coming To A Theater Near You:Bill Cunningham New York, The Documentary
"The best fashion show is definitely on the street, always has been and always will be." ~ Bill Cunningham
If that isn't a true statement, I don't know what else is. Every designer on the planet derives his or her style inspiration from what they see on the street and from other cultures. 'Bill Cunningham New York', a documentary about the legendary New York Times street fashion photographer, is creating as much buzz and acclaim in fashion circles as 2009's 'The September Issue', which revealed the machinations at American Vogue. It's also being compared to the 'Valentino: The Last Emperor' which detailed the life of couturier, Valentino Garavani.
If anyone who has ever read my blog should know that I'm a huge fan of NYT's photographer Bill Cunningham. Before there were all these other street photographers, there was Bill. I can't start my Saturday morning without checking to see the beauty and style that bill has captured. My hard drive is full of photos from Bill's street snaps. Cunningham, 81, has been documenting the fashions found on New York Streets for the last 50 years. With a battered Nikon camera, he goes everywhere on his bicycle, snapping anything that catches his eye. Be sure to check it out when it hits your city.

THE LOOKS: GUCCI 2011/2012 RTW
Two words best describe GUCCI'S 2011 FALL/WINTER-RTW Collection. Luxurious and chic! For Fall, designer Frida Giannini put basic black on the back burner in favor of vibrant colors such as teal, scarlet, lilac, aubergine and every jewel tome imaginable, all done up in a wide range of eras from '70s Disco, to '40s "Zoot Suit" style menswear. Glam gowns with just the right amount of sex appeal, dare to go there with peekaboo slits which evoke a '40s allure like no other. And the furs...PETA would have a field day...perfectly dyed to match. The GUCCI brand has certainly lived up to it's image as a luxe brand to covet. I love the bold lip and minimal makeup Pat McGrath created. Simply gorgeous!Check out the rest of the collection and behind the scenes here.

FOUR LOOKS: MARIOS SCHWAB FALL/WINTER 2011 LFW
What Marios Schwab presented was a collection that was both, refined and versatile plus professional enough to wear during the day and stylish enough to wear at night. Rich with color in sumptuous leather and silk jersey dresses cinched at the waist in vibrant hues and flowing silhouettes. He even presented his own take on "puff love" in down jackets and vests that were both flattering, fitted and feminine which won't make a woman look like the 'Michelin' woman, but a modern woman.
